About The Position

Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare (TMH) is a private, nonprofit community-based healthcare system providing care to a 22-county region in North Florida and South Georgia. The Patient Care Assistant, under direct supervision of a licensed nurse, performs a variety of routine duties involving the care of medically ill acute or sub-acute patients, direct patient care, observing and reporting changes in patient behavior and physical status, and providing a clean and safe environment.

Requirements

  • None (Required Education)
  • None (Required Experience)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • BLS certification is required prior to performing patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Care of medically ill acute or sub-acute patients.
  • Performs direct patient care.
  • Observes and reports changes in the behavior and physical status of patients.
  • Provides a clean and safe environment.
  • Assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, shaving, oral and denture care, skin and nail care, bed making, and maintaining a clean environment).
  • Promoting and maintaining mobility (ambulating, transferring, transporting, turning, positioning, lifting, and performing range of motion exercises).
  • Assisting with nutrition and hydration (feeding and assisting patients with eating and drinking).
  • Assisting with toileting and elimination (assisting with the use of bedpan/urinal/bedside commode, providing catheter care, and care of the incontinent patient).
  • Performs data gathering and recognizes abnormal findings (measures and records vital signs, weight, oral intake, output including urine, emesis, and stool).
