About The Position
At Nexus Children’s Hospital – Dallas, we specialize in bridging medical and behavioral care for children and adolescents recovering from complex medical challenges. Our patients often face brain injuries, developmental delays, psychiatric diagnoses, or co-occurring behavioral conditions—and our team is dedicated to helping them rebuild strength, stability, and confidence. We provide a supportive, structured environment that empowers each child to reach new milestones and transition successfully from hospital to home. The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides direct, hands-on care and behavioral support to pediatric patients with medical and psychiatric needs. Working closely with licensed nurses and an interdisciplinary team, the PCA helps create a therapeutic environment that promotes safety, healing, and growth.
Requirements
- De-escalation Training – required within 30 days of hire
- CPR / BLS Certification – required
Responsibilities
- Provide direct care and supervision for pediatric patients, assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, feeding, transfers, and grooming.
- Observe, monitor, and accurately document patients’ behavior, affect, participation, and vital signs.
- Foster a safe, structured, and nurturing environment consistent with trauma-informed care practices.
- Support therapeutic and educational programming, recreational activities, and behavioral interventions.
- Assist in the implementation of individualized care and behavioral support plans under clinical direction.
- Respond to patient crises using approved de-escalation and intervention techniques to ensure safety.
- Collaborate closely with nurses, therapists, pediatricians, psychiatrists, and behavioral specialists to ensure integrated and compassionate care.
