Ellison 12 Adult Medical Unit is in search of a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a part-time Patient Care Assistant (PCA). This professional should have the availability to work full-time shifts on the Day and Nights for the unit. The Adult Medical unit has 36-bed and located in Boston, MA. The unit is devoted to the care of the acutely ill medical patient. The patient population on this unit includes a vast mix of medical diagnoses requiring complex nursing care. Schedule Day (7am-7pm) and Nights (7pm-7am) on Weekdays and weekends. Mandatory weekend shifts every other week. Job Summary Summary Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
Basic Life Support [BLS] - Generic - HR Only preferred
Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Generic - HR Only preferred
Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician [National Certification] - Generic - HR Only preferred
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong patient/customer service skills.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Proficient in computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.

Nice To Haves

Experience working in patient care/elder care 0-1 year preferred

Responsibilities

Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively
Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
