The Cardiac Surgical Stepdown unit is in search of a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Full-time Patient Care Assistant (PCA). Ellison 8, is a thirty six bed adult Cardiac Surgical Step Down Unit., located in Boston, MA. Patients are primarily admitted post operatively from the Blake 8 - Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Patients are also admitted pre-op for cardiac surgery. Common diagnoses include coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic disease, congenital heart disease, lethal arrhythmias, S/P coronary bypass graft, S/P valve replacement, ACID placement, and permanent pacemaker placement. Schedule: Days (7am-7pm) Nights (7pm-7am) 3x 12 hours shift per week. Mandatory rotating weekend and holiday scheduled. What do we have to Offer? Medical, Dental and Vision insurance. Job Summary Summary Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
  • Basic Life Support [BLS] - Generic - HR Only preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Generic - HR Only preferred
  • Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician [National Certification] - Generic - HR Only preferred
  • Experience working in patient care/elder care 0-1 year preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong patient/customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Proficient in computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
  • Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
  • Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
  • Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
  • Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
  • Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
  • Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively
  • Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
