The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for providing nursing care to patients under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse. This role involves a variety of duties including Assisted Daily Livings within a hospital setting (bathing, changing, toileting, dressing, etc.), light housekeeping in patient rooms and maintaining cleanliness in utility rooms, linen and storage closets, and hallways. The assistant performs clinical patient care that does not require a nursing license, assists with call lights, phone operations, and orienting patient families/visitors, and maintains properly stocked patient care areas. They are also responsible for maintaining correct electronic medical records and properly documenting all patient care interactions. The Patient Care Assistant reviews and discusses patient care plans and ongoing patient care activities with the assigned Registered Nurse, and maintains efficient patient flow by being aware of room availability and patient intakes/discharges. They clean patient rooms after discharge with nursing staff assistance, properly dispose of used items, and process reusable items for sterilization. The role requires demonstrating knowledge and execution of correct patient safety practices and responsible, professional behavior in a team setting. The position is for the R3S Medical Unit, a 36-bed unit serving adults with various medical needs such as sepsis, cellulitis, gastrointestinal bleed, pneumonia, diabetic complications, and urinary tract infections. The R3S unit emphasizes collaborative team care to achieve the best patient outcomes while respecting patient preferences, with a team comprising RNs, patient care assistants, care managers, respiratory care, clinical nurse specialists, and providers.
