About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant/PCT/C.N.A position at Emerus involves performing advanced indirect and selected direct patient care duties in support of the nursing process under the direction of a registered nurse. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles as they relate to different life cycles. The position is full-time, with night shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM, at a small-format hospital with 20 beds, including 10 ER and 10 inpatient beds. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • 2 years of work experience in an acute care hospital as a Nursing Assistant or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
  • Ability to understand written instructions and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties with increased responsibilities.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting.
  • Basic knowledge of PPE protocols and universal precautions.
  • Fluency in English; written and verbal communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Nursing Assistant certification.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver appropriate advanced indirect and selected direct patient care as directed by a physician or registered nurse.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare team members to plan and promote quality patient care.
  • Employ critical thinking skills to identify and respond to abnormal findings, reporting to the nurse immediately.
  • Maintain simple drainage devices and take patient vital signs.
  • Perform blood glucose checks, EKGs, and monitor intake and output.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and assist with mobility.
  • Transport patients within the facility and perform assigned treatments.
  • Maintain equipment and patient rooms in an orderly fashion.
  • Perform housekeeping duties for patient rooms and data entry via computer.
  • Serve as Unit Clerk and/or monitor patients as assigned.
  • Ensure safe care to patients adhering to policies, procedures, and standards of care.
