About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant/PCT/C.N.A position is responsible for performing advanced indirect and selected direct patient care duties in support of the nursing process under the direction of a registered nurse. The role includes performing related clerical functions and requires knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to different life cycles. The position is full-time with day shift hours from 7 AM to 7 PM at a small-format hospital in Carlisle, PA.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • 2 years of work experience in an acute care hospital as a Nursing Assistant or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program required.
  • Ability to understand written instructions and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties with increased responsibilities.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of PPE protocols and universal precautions.
  • Fluency in English; written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to the patient served.
  • Deliver appropriate advanced indirect and selected direct patient care at a competent level as directed by a physician or registered nurse.
  • Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to plan, expedite, and promote quality patient care.
  • Employ critical thinking skills when identifying and responding to abnormal findings, reporting such to the nurse immediately.
  • Maintain simple drainage devices and take patient vital signs.
  • Perform blood glucose checks, EKGs, monitor intake and output, and maintain related records.
  • Prepare patients for procedures as directed and assist with mobility.
  • Transport patients within the facility and perform assigned treatments as directed.
  • Maintain equipment and patient rooms in an orderly fashion and perform housekeeping duties.
  • Perform assigned data entry via computer and serve as Unit Clerk or monitor patients as assigned.
  • Ensure safe care to patients adhering to policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory meetings and continuing education.
