About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for providing nursing care to patients under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse. This role includes assisting with daily living activities within a hospital setting, such as bathing, changing, toileting, and dressing. The Patient Care Assistant will also perform light housekeeping duties in patient rooms and maintain cleanliness in utility rooms, linen and storage closets, and hallways. Clinical patient care tasks that do not require a nursing license are part of the responsibilities, along with assisting with call lights, phone operations, and orienting patient families and visitors. Properly stocked patient care areas must be maintained, and electronic medical records must be accurately documented. The Patient Care Assistant will review and discuss patient care plans and ongoing activities with the assigned Registered Nurse, ensuring efficient patient flow by being aware of room availability and patient intakes/discharges. After patient discharge, cleaning of patient rooms and proper disposal of items used during a patient stay is required, along with processing reusable items for sterilization. Knowledge and execution of correct patient safety practices are essential, and the role demands responsible, professional behavior while working in a team setting.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, or relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • BLS Certification is required.
  • If hired for the Transitional Sub-Acute Unit, PA Nurse Aide Certification is required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse.

  • Perform light housekeeping duties in patient rooms and maintain cleanliness in utility rooms, linen and storage closets, and hallways.
  • Assist with call lights, phone operations, and orienting patient families and visitors.
  • Maintain properly stocked patient care areas.
  • Accurately document all patient care interactions in electronic medical records.
  • Review and discuss patient care plans with the assigned Registered Nurse.
  • Maintain efficient patient flow by being aware of room availability and patient intakes/discharges.
  • Clean patient rooms after discharge and properly dispose of used items.
  • Process reusable items for sterilization and reuse.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of correct patient safety practices.
  • Exhibit responsible and professional behavior in a team setting.
