About The Position

Cabell Huntington Hospital is now hiring PCA Apprentices, individuals ready to begin a rewarding journey toward becoming a trained Patient Care Assistant (PCA) through paid, hands-on experience and in-house training. Our PCA Apprentice Program is designed to help entry-level candidates transition into professional healthcare roles. As a PCA Apprentice, you will: Start working immediately in a supportive role alongside experienced nursing staff Participate in basic patient care, cleaning, and clerical tasks Enroll in CHH’s internal PCA Training Program, beginning September 2025 Receive comprehensive, hands-on training at no cost to you Upon successful program completion, receive a certificate of completion from MCTC Patient Care Assistant training program and ability to apply for and transition into a PCA position at Cabell Huntington Hospital At CHH, you are not just getting a job. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Completion of CHH’s PCA Training Program within 90 days of the program start date
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Passing score (80% or higher) on the medical terminology exam within 90 days of employment
  • Achievement of a score of 3 or higher on the criteria-based performance evaluation during the 90-day probationary period (or within 60 days for transferred employees)
  • No experience required. A passion for care and a willingness to learn are essential.
  • A desire to build a career in healthcare
  • Reliability, professionalism, and a team-first attitude
  • The ability to meet physical demands of patient care, including lifting, walking, and standing for long periods
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and the public are essential for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Up to 1 year of relevant experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine patient care activities under supervision
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe unit environment
  • Support nurses with clerical and receptionist duties
  • Engage respectfully with patients, families, and clinical staff
  • Learn the skills and standards needed to advance into a PCA role
