About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant at Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY) plays a vital role in providing education, counseling, and support services to patients within a health center environment. This full-time position involves working closely with health center staff to ensure that patients receive professional services in a timely manner, while also promoting diversity and inclusion in healthcare delivery.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1 to 2 years of experience in a healthcare position
• Medical Assistant Training or CNA highly desired
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Computer skills including basic Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Records
• Valid NYS driver's license and reliable transportation
• Proficiency in Spanish, Nepali, Arabic, or Swahili is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently handle the patient intake process, determining the reason for visit and assisting with forms.
• Record data in the Electronic Health Record, including vital signs and medical history.
• Perform routine tests such as urine pregnancy tests, HIV tests, and blood draws as ordered by the provider.
• Assist clinicians in the exam room by providing patient support and education about reproductive health care.
• Prepare specimens for lab pick-up and assist in the setup and breakdown of patient service rooms.
• Provide comfort measures, counseling, and information on reproductive health issues to patients.
• Participate in staff meetings and assist with training of new staff as required.
• Ensure compliance with PPFA Medical Standards and Guidelines by updating reference materials annually.
