About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) at Nationwide Children's Hospital is responsible for providing basic supportive care to pediatric patients and selected adults under the supervision of a registered nurse or care manager. This role involves collecting and documenting vital signs, assisting with procedures, and ensuring patient safety while maintaining a professional and compliant environment. The PCA is expected to demonstrate competence in age-appropriate care and contribute to a collaborative culture focused on improving the lives of children.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Active State Tested Nursing Assistant certification or one year of comparable experience in a hospital setting within the past 3 years.
  • Current CPR (BLS for healthcare provider) certification.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Sound written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a hospital setting.
  • Nursing students who have completed the fundamentals of nursing course(s) of an approved college/school program.

Responsibilities

  • Performs clerical office coordination and administrative tasks as necessary.
  • Collects, documents, and reports vital signs such as blood pressure, heights, and weights.
  • Completes screening questions and documents all items into the medical record.
  • Promotes general patient safety and performs minor specimen testing.
  • Holds and positions patients and assists with procedures.
  • Prepares all materials and supplies as needed.
  • Remains compliant with HIPAA and ensures confidentiality of patient information.
  • Ensures environmental standards are met and all clinic and patient areas are stocked, cleaned, and maintained.
  • Identifies learning needs and attends continuing education as appropriate.
  • Participates in educational activities offered by the business unit.
  • Acts as a preceptor for the orientation and training of other PCA staff.

Benefits

  • Starting pay of $19.00/hr, based on experience and applicable shift differentials.
  • Non-exempt, benefits and overtime eligible.
