The Patient Care Assistant II (PCA II) is accountable for supporting patient care activities, under the supervision of a registered nurse, on inpatient nursing units. The PCA II works closely with the charge nurse and staff nurses to assure patient care needs are met. The PCA II performs patient care activities, as delegated, and adheres to patient safety measures. The PCA II is proficient in the performance of basic patient care activities, medical terminology, communication, organizational, and computer skills. The PCA II demonstrates and role models personal and professional effectiveness.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED plus technical skills/training appropriate to the specialty area.
  • Certified Nurse Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant certification required; nursing students may be exempt if they are actively attending an accredited nursing program and have completed the first clinical/foundations course.
  • Basic Life Support certification from an AHA approved program required.
  • Aggression Management certification within 90 days of hire.
  • EKG and/or Phlebotomy competency validation required within 6 months of hire, as applicable to specialty area.
  • Two years of related clinical experience (nursing program clinical rotations applicable).
  • Above average verbal communication skills with heavy public contact.
  • Proficiency in personal computer, MS Word, and typing.

Responsibilities

  • Support patient care activities under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Work closely with charge nurse and staff nurses to meet patient care needs.
  • Perform delegated patient care activities and adhere to patient safety measures.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic patient care activities and medical terminology.
  • Exhibit effective communication, organizational, and computer skills.
