About The Position

This position is for a Patient Care Assistant in the CTICU, working 24 or 36 hours per week, 7A-7P, with every other to every third weekend and holiday rotation. The CTICU has 20 beds and cares for a patient population ranging from birth to late adulthood, including patients with Congenital Heart Defects, Acquired Heart Disease, Pre & Post-Surgical conditions, and Heart & Lung Transplants. PCAs are typically assigned 3-4 patients and work alongside the bedside RN to provide care, obtain vital signs, and assist with feeding. The ideal candidate is flexible, eager to learn, self-driven, and a team player. The role involves performing basic supportive care to specified patients and families under the direction and supervision of an RN or Care Manager, including collecting, documenting, and reporting data.

Requirements

  • Completion of fundamentals course from an approved nursing program, or equivalent licensure or experience, required.
  • Active State Tested Nurse Aide License in the State of Ohio, or equivalent education or experience, required.
  • Current CPR certification (BLS for healthcare provider), required.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Must demonstrate competence as defined in the Patient Care Assistant responsibilities/skills checklist in providing age appropriate care and services to pediatric patients of all ages and selected adult patients.
  • Displays a positive presence and interacts with patients, families, staff, outside vendors, consultants, and physicians.
  • One year of patient care experience in a hospital setting within the last three years, or equivalent education or licensure, required.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, documents, and reports vital signs.
  • May complete screening questions and documentation or minor specimen testing as assigned.
  • Promotes general patient safety.
  • Holds and positions patients and assists with procedures.
  • Prepares materials and supplies as delegated.
  • Remains compliant with HIPAA, maintains professionalism, and ensures confidentiality of patient information.
  • Ensures environmental standards are met and all unit and patient areas are stocked, cleaned, and maintained.
  • Performs clerical and administrative tasks as necessary.
  • Completes continuing education and participates in offered educational opportunities.
  • May act as a preceptor and train other staff.
