About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant in the Complex Airway department at Cincinnati Children's Hospital plays a crucial role in providing care to patients with complex airway needs. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year of related experience.
  • Completion of the CCHMC provided Monitor Tech Class AND a passing score on written exam and competency demonstration based on unit requirements.
  • Training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and maintenance of certification.
  • Completion of medical/surgical or equivalent clinical rotation OR Listed on Ohio STNA registry OR Ohio CNA; if CNA is in another state, must receive reciprocity within 180 days of hire.
  • Listed on Ohio Emergency Medical Services Registry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide approved care of assigned patients and assist in implementation of interventions under the supervision of an RN.
  • Supervise and assist patients with activities of daily living.
  • Supervise developmentally appropriate activities for patients.
  • Offer assistance to co-workers after completing own duties.
  • Use crisis control techniques and assist in de-escalation of patients and visitors.
  • Assist with patient transport as requested.
  • May assist with 1 on 1 patient observation as needed.
  • Demonstrate the Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Report present status or changes in patient condition on an ongoing basis and in change of shift summary.
  • Complete timely documentation of information in the patient medical record.
  • Seek information and guidance when needed and discuss concerns with the Director or designee.
  • Ensure that all areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees.
  • Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures and adhere to safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and development levels.
  • Respond to communication system/patient alarms with a sense of urgency and answer the telephone in accordance with CCHMC telephone etiquette.
  • Assemble charts, order patient supplies, and stock clerical supplies.
  • May assist in the orientation and training of new employees.
