White 8 is in search of a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Patient Care Assistant I (PCA). This individual must be able to provide Day and Night schedule, and coverage on rotating weekends and holidays. White 8 is a 27-bed adult general medicine inpatient unit, located in Boston, MA. The unit serves patients from culturally diverse backgrounds and geographic areas that present with acute and complex medical problems. Patients are generally admitted to our unit from the Emergency Department or as a transfer from one of the intensive care units. The unit is in search of a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in White 8. Schedule: Days (7am-7pm) and Nights (7pm-7am) Mandatory weekend shifts every month.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
- Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred
- Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred
- Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic [Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services preferred
- Nursing Assistant [LNA - New Hampshire] - New Hampshire Board of Nursing preferred
- Experience working in patient care/elder care 1-2 years preferred
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong patient/customer service skills.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
- Proficient computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
Responsibilities
- Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating.
- Assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
- Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested.
- Completes all documentation in the medical record as required.
- Interacts with patients and their families effectively.
- Helps patients with a number of basic hygiene tasks. This may include bathing and dressing patients, helping them use the toilet if needed, and feeding them.
- Assist with helping patients turn and reposition themselves in bed as needed and help them move between the bed and a wheelchair if they use one.
- Listens to any health concerns patients may have and report those concerns to the nurses.
