About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant/CNA position at Emerus involves performing advanced indirect and selected direct patient care duties in support of the nursing process under the direction of a registered nurse. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles as they relate to different life cycles. The position is full-time, with day shifts from 7 AM to 7 PM, and is located at the McCandless AHN Neighborhood Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. The facility is an 18-bed small-format hospital that includes 8 ER and 10 inpatient beds. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • 2 years of work experience in an acute care hospital as a Nursing Assistant or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program required.
  • Ability to understand written instructions and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties with increased responsibilities.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting.
  • Basic knowledge of PPE protocols and universal precautions.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Pennsylvania Candidates must have Act 33 and Act 73 clearances completed within the last 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver appropriate advanced indirect and selected direct patient care as directed by a physician or registered nurse.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare team members to plan and promote quality patient care.
  • Employ critical thinking skills to identify and respond to abnormal findings, reporting to the nurse immediately.
  • Maintain simple drainage devices and take patient vital signs.
  • Perform blood glucose checks, EKGs, monitor intake and output, and maintain related records.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and assist with mobility and bathing.
  • Transport patients within the facility and perform assigned treatments.
  • Maintain equipment and patient rooms in an orderly fashion.
  • Perform housekeeping duties for patient rooms and data entry via computer.
  • Serve as Unit Clerk and/or monitor patients as assigned.
  • Ensure safe care to patients adhering to policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting mandatory requirements.
