Position Summary According to established policies and procedures, supports the clinicians leading Centering (OB-GYN provider, midwife, and Perinatal Nurse Navigator) and directly participates in other community education and outreach programs including Certified Car Seat Certification Checks.

Requirements

  • Must be flexible with scheduling based on timing of Centering Appointments, Community Events, and needs of the department. This includes some evening and weekend coverage.
  • Greets patients in a timely and courteous manner, presenting a positive, professional appearance and attitude and demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired through the performance of job duties.
  • Maintains work area in a professional and efficient manner, keeping supplies and equipment in an orderly condition.
  • May assist in scheduling ambulatory follow-up appointments or other follow-up support for patients.
  • May assist with other Community Education Classes and Events.
  • Practices acceptable universal precautions and isolation techniques.
  • Responsible for ensuring that personal performance reflects the LMHS Mission, Vision, Standards of Behavior and Service Goals.
  • Work requires a high school level of knowledge to be able to read, write, perform simple arithmetic calculations and deal effectively with people.
  • Basic analytical ability is required to gather and interpret data in situations where the problems are not difficult or complex.
  • Work requires familiarity with various forms, insurance requirements, medical terminology, Epic documentation and departmental procedures, generally acquired through six months experience.
  • Ability to operate multi-line phone systems, fax machine, copiers, and other office equipment.
  • Must have aptitude and ability to prioritize and organize work effectively, using discretion, initiative, and independent judgement to follow through with assignments.
  • Maintain Health Care Provider CPR Certification.
  • LMH is accredited by DNV and TJC, and as such, may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Centering Group Facilitation : Co-facilitates prenatal group sessions with providers.
  • Health Assessments: Obtains vital signs, patient weight, etc. within the group setting, or assist patients to perform self-assessments and then record data as designated scope of the PCA.
  • Clinical Support: Administers tests (e.g., labs, urine dips, blood pressure).
  • Program Coordination: Manages logistics for group meetings, including preparing materials, setting up rooms, and treating patients. Orders supplies and prepares games, activities, and crafts focused on pregnancy, birth, and parenting
  • Participates in Centering Committee
  • Participate in home visits with Perinatal Nurse Navigator on an as needed basis
  • Car seat certification A Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) educates caregivers on the proper installation and use of child restraints (car seats, boosters, seat belts) through hands-on demonstrations and inspections. CPSTs assess car seats for recalls, verify correct fit for the child's age and size, and provide personalized safety education to reduce injury risks.
  • Inspections & Installation: Perform hands-on checks to ensure car seats are installed correctly in vehicles.
  • Education: Teach parents/caregivers how to properly secure children in seats and select appropriate seats.
  • Recall Checks: Inspect seats for manufacturer recalls and expiration dates.
  • Community Outreach: Participate in car seat checkup events, community workshops, and safety clinics.
  • Documentation: Maintain records of inspections and consultations.
