About The Position

The position involves obtaining insurance information, referral forms, and counseling patients on financial assistance when they are seen in the department for services. The role requires registering new patients, assisting with form completion, reviewing schedules for new patients, and calling patients with appointment reminders while obtaining necessary insurance information and referral forms. The individual will explain the billing process to patients and other staff, assist with basic account maintenance activities, and help patients with insurance questions regarding billing. Additionally, the role may involve providing Medical Assistant services as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
  • Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.
  • Registered/Certified Medical Assistant or achieve Medical Assistant registration/certification within 6 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain insurance information from patients and counsel on financial assistance alternatives.
  • Register all new patients and assist with form completion.
  • Review schedule for new patients and update when necessary.
  • Call patients with appointment time reminders and obtain insurance information and referral forms.
  • Explain billing process to patients and answer inquiries from patients and third-party payers.
  • Assist with basic account maintenance activities.
  • Assist patients with insurance questions regarding the billing process.
  • Help staff with sending out reminder cards and other scheduling duties.
  • Provide Medical Assistant services to the department as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
