About The Position

General Summary of Position The Patient Advocate seeks to personalize and strengthen the relationship between the hospital and the patients their families and visitors and to facilitate a problem solving system of communications. Works to enhance the image of the hospital by acting in a public relations capacity. Also acts as an ombudsman on behalf of the patients and the hospital.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Bachelor's of Arts or Science in healthcare related field required
• 1-2 years Previous public relations medical/healthcare office required and
• 1-2 years customer service experience required
• Demonstrated experience working with patients and families in an in-patient setting
• Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and multi-cultural environment
• Ability to diffuse stressful situations and resolve issues

Responsibilities

• Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
• Provides visitors with information and directions and assists with enforcement of visitor control policy.
• Interfaces with patients and families regarding room changes.
• Assists patients in contacting family members.
• Makes rounds and visits all inpatients in designated areas daily.
• Makes rounds to outpatient waiting areas and greets patients and develops innovative ways of providing information to patients.
• Communicates with patients and families who are in the Emergency Department.
• Assists with transportation arrangements for patient discharge including answering telephone at nurse's station as needed and assisting with transportation arrangements for patient discharge.
• Documents complaints/compliments and forwards to unit manager and enters into variance system if indicated.
