About The Position

The Patient Advocate serves as a vital link between patients, families, and the healthcare organization, ensuring effective communication and support throughout the patient experience. This role is focused on providing information, assistance, and emotional support to patients and their families across all age groups, while also addressing complaints and facilitating connections to appropriate resources.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • At least one year of experience in a healthcare setting or customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a liaison between patients/families and the organization.
  • Facilitates communication between surgeon and family members.
  • Provides emotional support to patients, families, and visitors coping with medical situations.
  • Informs patients and families of procedure processes and updates them on any delays.
  • Documents patient arrival times for Surgical Services visibility.
  • Assesses and evaluates appropriate measures to assist patients' families/visitors with non-clinical needs.
  • Investigates reasons for delays and assists clinical staff in resolving them.
  • Updates family members on an hourly basis regarding procedure progress and patient status.
  • Answers phone calls and provides information to patients, family members, and physicians.
  • Provides direction and answers questions regarding hospital policies/procedures.
  • Maintains a paging system to notify family members for updates on patient conditions.
  • Contributes to maintaining a comfortable lobby for patients and families.
  • Assists patients in signing in and educates them on the surgery flow process.
  • Manages complaint resolutions and reports unresolved complaints to charge nurse/Director.
  • Works with NGHS Services staff to project a positive image of the department.
  • Makes frequent rounds to patient areas and maintains visitor control.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in dealing with community, staff, and volunteers.
