The Emergency Department at Hartford Hospital, a tertiary care teaching hospital, is seeking both new and experienced associates to join our team. Recognized as being one of the busiest ED’s in Connecticut, HHED is also an accredited Level 1 Trauma Center, chest pain center and comprehensive stroke center, treating patients of the highest acuity in the region. Comprised of 108 beds, with the addition of a new 19 bed ED Observation Unit, HHED treats an average of 109,000 patients annually. Additionally, Hartford Hospital Emergency Department is a proud recipient of the Emergency Nurses Association’s 2024 Lantern Award for demonstrating excellence in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research performance. The Lantern Award is a visible symbol of an emergency department’s commitment to quality, safety, a healthy work environment and innovation in nursing practice and emergency care. Job Summary Under the direction of a Registered Nurse and Unit Manager, the Patient Administrative Associate performs delegated functions as a member of a patient care team by providing administrative support and communicating with members of the health care team, patients and families. This role contributes to the successful operation of the work area and functions in accordance with all existing regulatory and hospital standards, policies and procedures. Additionally, Patient Administrative Associates in the Emergency Department are responsible for observing cardiac monitors, interpreting telemetry rhythm strips, and reporting any abnormalities or critical changes to the clinical team.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to read English, and perform basic Mathematics.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, write, and speak English
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Ability to perform physical effort as specified by position physical requirements and occupational exposure form.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Hospital based or physician office work experience.
  • Demonstrated competencies in a related health field at Hartford Hospital
  • CPR validation may be required within three months of hire depending upon work area specific requirement
