About The Position

The Patient Accounts Coordinator in Patient Financial Services at Atrium Health is responsible for managing complex tasks related to patient billing and financial services. This role requires critical thinking and specialist knowledge to review difficult work queues, analyze accounts, and prepare reports to identify and resolve billing issues. The coordinator will collaborate with management to address root causes of denials and assist in training new team members.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years' experience in related financial services or healthcare business office required.
  • Bachelor's or associate degree preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
  • Prior healthcare computer system experience, specifically with Epic billing, preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with healthcare billing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Review difficult work queues and large dollar accounts.
  • Create reports and spreadsheets to identify problem areas in patient billing.
  • Analyze rejection reports and errors made by the system and teammates.
  • Request system changes and report error rates by teammate.
  • Prepare Medicare/Medicaid quarterly credit balance reports.
  • Approve refunds as defined in departmental threshold guidelines.
  • Assist Supervisor/Manager with quality checks for all payers and departments.
  • Perform quality assurance tasks to validate workflow builds and process improvements.
  • Analyze denial reasons provided by payers and collaborate with management to address root causes.
  • Research and analyze payer trends and work on special projects involving aged or complex account issues.
  • Train new teammates as needed.
