About The Position

The Patient Account Specialist at Tucson Medical Center is responsible for managing self-pay collections and third-party billing/collections. This role involves a thorough review of billing and collection activities, ensuring timely and accurate payments, and resolving issues related to patient accounts. The specialist will interact with various stakeholders, including management, patients, and third-party payers, to address concerns and facilitate payments while adhering to organizational policies and industry standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Three years of related experience in medical billing or third-party collections.
• Technical experience in CMS/Medicaid regulations and commercial payer billing requirements.
• Minimum two years' experience in a Windows environment, including Excel.
• Strong knowledge of fair debt collections.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of medical insurance practices and policies.
• Knowledge of HMO, PPO, and Indemnity third-party billing guidelines.
• Knowledge of UB04 hospital or CMS physician billing forms.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and coding related to hospital billing.

Responsibilities

• Perform self-pay collections and third-party billing/collections.
• Review billing and collection activities to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Resolve problems related to payer and patient requirements for timely payments.
• Assist management in maintaining or reducing account receivable (AR) days.
• Ensure timely and accurate billing of UB04 and HCFA 1500 claims.
• Provide information regarding patient accounts in response to inquiries.
• Demonstrate understanding of the entire revenue cycle.
• Interface with management, staff, and third-party payers to resolve patient concerns.
• Research and analyze correspondence related to assigned accounts.
• Analyze patient accounts to determine non-collectable accounts and recommend write-offs.
