About The Position

The Patient Account Specialist - Hospital Collections is responsible for managing and following up on assigned accounts to ensure prompt payment or resolution in accordance with Jupiter Medical Center's policies and procedures. This role requires expertise in medical collections, denial management, and maintaining positive relationships with various hospital departments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in medical collections within a healthcare facility.
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care contracts, and commercial insurance plans.
  • Ability to identify and calculate expected reimbursement from a UB-04.
  • Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 Codes, procedural modifiers, and claim forms.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, billing and insurance regulations, and medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in standard office equipment and Windows applications.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with applications such as Excel, Word, Star, Cerner, HPF, and Experian products.

Responsibilities

  • Follow up on assigned accounts to obtain prompt payment or resolution.
  • Provide expertise in explanation of benefits (EOBs) and electronic payment remittance (EPR).
  • Manage denials by investigating reasons, developing strategies, and appealing when necessary.
  • Maintain daily follow-up of assigned accounts in line with business office policies.
  • Inform the Collection Manager of any contractual issues requiring intervention.
  • Keep the Collection Manager updated on potential negative financial impacts on accounts.
  • Display excellent customer service skills for both internal and external clients.
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
