About The Position

Our organization is looking to add a skilled Patient Account Representative to our Elbow Lake team. In this role, you will be responsible for all billing matters that take place between the hospital and our patients. Your role will also involve helping patients set up payment plans, and resolving any issues that may arise in the payment process. To do well as a Patient Account Representative, you will need to have an understanding of the inner-workings of medical billing, excel at problem-solving, should be capable of explaining medical billing practices, which can sometimes be complex, to patients without much familiarity with them. The role of the Patient Account Representative is to provide billing assistance and general support to Lake Region Healthcare patients. This includes:

Requirements

  • Education/Special Skills: High school diploma/GED required. Associate's degree preferred.
  • Strong understanding of medical billing processes
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal with patients and staff
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to analyze patient accounts and determine status and required actions.
  • Working knowledge of related system applications, spreadsheets and word processing software.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting patients in setting up payment plans
  • Process patient payments and refunds
  • Answer patients' questions regarding their bill
  • Resolve any issues that may arise during the payment process
  • Contact patients to inform them of overdue balances and how we can help them pay those balances
  • Following billing collection procedures
  • Ensuring accuracy of patient accounts
  • Becoming a MNSure Navigator within 6 months of hire
