About The Position

The Patient Account Representative is responsible for gathering information about patient accounts and correcting or forwarding information to insurance companies on a regular basis. This role involves following up on specified accounts to ensure the final follow-up is complete, gathering charge information, coding, entering data into a database, completing the billing process, and distributing billing information accordingly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in all aspects of medical billing (CPT, ICD-10, charge entry, payment entry, and A/R follow-up).
  • Extensive knowledge of medical insurance and coding (CPT, ICD-10, Medical Terminology, and Medicare Guidelines).
  • Knowledge of billing practices and clinic policies and procedures.
  • Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to prepare records in accordance with detailed instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively with patients.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to understand and effectively work in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel, practice management systems, and electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, management, staff, and contacts outside the organization.
  • Ability to use creative problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient questions and payments.
  • Key and post charges.
  • Submit billing data to appropriate insurance providers.
  • Resolve denial instances.
  • Achieve maximum reimbursement for services provided.
  • Post payments when needed, accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Enter patient information into the system accurately.
  • Work through the refunding process for insurance and patient accounts.
  • Assist on other projects as needed.
  • Conduct duties in a professional and timely fashion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
