About The Position

The Institutional Insurance and reimbursement expert will be responsible for one or more of the following business lines: outpatient pharmacy, durable medical equipment, skilled nursing facility, home health agency, or continuing care retirement center. This role involves performing all aspects of the billing and collection processes for the individual business lines across the enterprise. Key processes include service pre-certification, insurance coverage review, personal responsibility determination, communications with patients, claim submissions, denial review, rebilling, appeals, and accounts receivable management. The expert will utilize skills in problem solving, customer service, and communications (both verbal and written) to resolve a variety of account, billing, and payment issues for patients, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, technicians, and social workers. Additionally, the expert will interpret, apply, and communicate Mayo Clinic policies regarding financial aspects of patient care to assure optimal reimbursement for both the patient and Mayo Clinic.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in finance, business, or healthcare-related majors and 1 year of experience in medical, pharmacy, or durable medical equipment billing and collection activities.
  • High school diploma/GED with at least 3 years of experience in medical, pharmacy, or durable medical equipment billing and collection activities.
  • Certified pharmacy tech with 2 years of experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • 1-2 years of experience submitting pharmacy prior authorizations.
  • Experience working with Windows-based software, Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet.
  • Keyboarding experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Claims management software experience.
  • Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform billing and collection processes for outpatient pharmacy, durable medical equipment, skilled nursing facility, home health agency, or continuing care retirement center.
  • Conduct service pre-certification and insurance coverage review.
  • Determine personal responsibility and communicate with patients regarding their accounts.
  • Submit claims, review denials, rebill, and manage appeals.
  • Handle accounts receivable management.
  • Utilize problem-solving and customer service skills to resolve billing and payment issues.
  • Interpret and communicate Mayo Clinic financial policies to ensure optimal reimbursement.
