The Patient Access Technician (PAT) is an exciting opportunity at MultiCare, responsible for welcoming patients at one of our Off-Campus Emergency Departments. This position works closely with both financial and clinical teams and will offer you the space to create the optimum patient experience. Requirements

  • Graduate of health vocational program such as patient access, medical assistance, medical billing and insurance or medical general, required
  • One year of admitting, billing, registration or custom service experience may be considered in lieu of education

Responsibilities

  • assure complete and accurate patient admissions/registrations according to organization policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
  • obtain inpatient bed assignments and processes inpatient admission, to include arm banding, addressograph plate, and completion of necessary forms
  • pre-admit all scheduled inpatient, outpatients and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth and speedy admission/registration process
  • obtain direct admit information and enter a reservation in the computer system in order to notify other areas
  • complete comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with patient, relative, or their representative to obtain pertinent demographic insurance and/or third party liability information
  • perform eligibility verification and resolves any discrepancies, determine need for financial assistance recommendation and application, referring to the Financial Counselor where necessary
