About The Position

The Patient Access Supervisor at UnitedHealth Group is responsible for managing daily operations within the assigned client facility or Patient Access Contact Center. This role involves staff training, coaching, issue resolution, and technical support to ensure compliance with policies and standards. The supervisor also participates in hiring decisions, performance appraisals, and quality reviews, while serving as a resource for new programs and processes. The position requires flexibility in working hours, including on-call responsibilities and rotating weekend coverage.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • 4+ years of experience in a hospital Patient Registration Department or similar role
  • 1+ years of supervisory or team lead experience
  • Current knowledge of Patient Access processes and systems
  • Basic knowledge of ICD-9 (10) and CPT terminology
  • Operational knowledge of Federal and State regulations regarding patient admissions
  • Ability to work onsite at 400 Old River Rd. Bakersfield CA 93311
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to local facilities
  • Ability to work Monday - Friday, 08:30AM - 05:00PM, with after hour on call responsibilities and rotating weekend coverage.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience in customer service, preferably in healthcare
  • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification
  • Experience working in a union environment

  • Knowledge of process improvement techniques

Responsibilities

  • Assist Patient Access Leadership in managing daily operations.
  • Provide operational guidance and support to assigned staff.
  • Develop associate work schedules and assignments for optimal workflow.
  • Perform job-specific accountabilities of relief staff and fill in as needed.
  • Participate in redesigning Patient Access processes to improve service and productivity.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through effective communication and problem resolution.
  • Provide function-specific training and support for staff orientation and continuing education.
  • Maintain operational order of the work site, including ordering supplies and maintaining a professional environment.
  • Select employees based on departmental needs and recommend resource allocation.
  • Review employee work regularly and provide coaching and mentoring.
  • Complete work schedules ensuring adequate coverage and performance.
  • Document employee disciplinary actions and performance reviews.
  • Maintain fiscal accountability and monitor staffing allocation.
  • Analyze data and prepare management reports on key performance indicators.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
