About The Position

Join #TeamWake as a Patient Access Specialist in our Eastern Regional Center! The Patient Access Specialist will primarily serve as a Referral Coordinator for the Eastern Regional Center. This position plays a key role in ensuring seamless patient care by managing referral processes and supporting administrative functions. This position assists patients during onsite registration and arrival for scheduled and unscheduled visits while prioritizing referral coordination tasks. The role requires excellent customer service skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic healthcare environment. NOTE: Upon acceptance of employment you acknowledge that (i) if you work in the Health Clinics and Public Health Division, influenza immunization is a condition of initial and continued employment, subject to compliance with federal law, (ii) actively supports and participates in department emergency preparedness and response activities, which may include temporary changes in responsibilities and working hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of job-related experience
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Excellent Communication - Oral and Written
  • Ability to work independently under time restraints
  • Problem Solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to recognize and respect the value of individual differences
  • Ability to actively participate as a member of a team to move toward the completion of goals
  • Proficient in office technology including: GE Centricity (Electronic Health Record), Microsoft Word, Internet owners, and Email
  • Ability to follow instructions through a standard work process, perform routine tasks and check work for accuracy before completion of tasks
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with patients

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with processing medical referrals
  • Experience working with Family Planning, Pre-natal, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and providing immunizations
  • Experience translating Spanish to English in a medical or healthcare

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage patient referrals, ensuring timely follow-up and compliance with provider and insurance requirements
  • Respond to telephone inquiries from patients with professionalism and sensitivity, providing accurate information regarding referrals and appointments
  • Gather, verify and update patient demographic, insurance, and medical information
  • Collect patient liabilities when necessary and ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines
  • Assist patients with onsite registration, check-in/check-out processes, and scheduling follow-up care
  • Maintain accurate documentation of referral activities and communicate effectively with providers, patients, and insurance representatives
  • Support additional administrative duties as needed to facilitate smooth clinic operations.
