About The Position

The Patient Access Specialist is a key line-level position responsible for ensuring a smooth and positive experience for patients from their initial point of contact through registration and scheduling. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. PCI Employees are expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs and departmental objectives, as assigned. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in business administration or related field and/or a combination of education and related employment experience in a confidential medical setting equivalent to two (2) years.
  • Two (2) years of employment experience in patient access, medical reception, or a healthcare front office setting, including patient registration, data entry, insurance verification, and appointment scheduling experience required.
  • Must possess certification of “Mandatory Reporter Training” or obtain certification during the first week of employment
  • Must maintain current professional licensure in Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtain licensure within ninety (90) days of date of hire.
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.
  • Must maintain a record of dependability and promptness.
  • Ability to remain engaged until assignments are completed and overcome obstacles.
  • Takes accountability for performance and results.
  • Open and honest communicator and follows policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients/visitors; verify demographics and insurance; enter data into EHR while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Verify coverage, assist with forms, and support billing and payer requirements.
  • Schedule, confirm, and manage appointments, including cancellations and referrals.
  • Answer calls and inquiries; provide information and direct to appropriate staff.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, documentation, and system updates.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to manage schedules and accommodate urgent needs.
  • Complete required forms, obtain signatures, and perform other assigned duties.
