About The Position

The position at Wellstar MCG Health serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring a pleasant experience from the moment they arrive. The role involves interviewing patients and their representatives to gather complete and accurate demographic, financial, and insurance information necessary for billing and collecting patient accounts. A critical aspect of the job is conducting intensive screenings of Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care patients to verify pre-certification requirements and provider service eligibility prior to registration. The individual in this role is responsible for obtaining all necessary customer consents and attestations, coordinating the collection of estimated patient liabilities, including co-payments and unmet deductibles, and verifying insurance benefits and coverage for both inpatients and outpatients. In addition to these responsibilities, the position requires responding to customer requests and inquiries regarding various services and account information. The employee must analyze and rectify customer concerns using established procedures, access and update customer records via computer, verify and post transactions, and follow established procedures for processing receipts and cash. The role also involves sorting and filing various documents and assisting with general hospital information and directions to departments within and outside the Wellstar Health System (WHS) facility. Establishing financial arrangements to mitigate financial risk for WHS is essential, ensuring that the organization is reimbursed for its services. The core responsibilities include receiving requests for patient scheduling from physician offices, making necessary pre-admission arrangements, and advising on unavailable dates. The employee interviews each patient or their representatives to obtain complete and accurate information, enters this data into the registration system, and ensures all necessary signatures are obtained. The role requires reading physician orders to determine requested procedures and instructing patients accordingly, as well as escorting patients to procedure areas and assigned rooms. Maintaining confidentiality of patient information in accordance with WHS policy and HIPAA regulations is paramount, along with demonstrating the ability to organize work effectively and complete tasks without creating backlogs. Customer service is a key component of this role, as the employee greets all guests with a positive and professional attitude, receives patients' valuables for safekeeping, and answers incoming phone calls while maintaining courteous relationships with WHS management, patients, physicians, and the general public. The employee is expected to handle difficult situations tactfully and present a well-groomed and professional image in accordance with departmental and hospital dress codes. The position also involves financial responsibilities, such as attempting to collect estimated self-pay balances, monitoring in-house accounts, and completing financial evaluation forms to document guarantors' financial situations. The employee must work efficiently within designated time frames to ensure continuity of information and cash flow, while also coordinating financial counseling activities with various departments within the health system.
