About the position

The Patient Access Specialist is responsible for various preservice functions including order receipt and transcription, scheduling, and registration components. This role ensures financial clearance for patients by understanding insurance payer requirements. The specialist provides scheduling services for outpatient procedures at McLeod Health, handling inbound and outbound scheduling, rescheduling, and cancellations while capturing current demographic and insurance data for all patients. The position requires the use of tools such as Microsoft Outlook and Teams to ensure timely and accurate scheduling with patients, physician practices, and ancillary departments. The specialist assists ancillary departments across multiple locations, ensuring that templates support patient, department, and facility needs. Additionally, the role involves completing assigned work queues related to orders, scheduling, and insurance verification, and notifying the Patient Access Supervisor of any trends that may delay patient care. The specialist also supports the Patient Access Supervisor with special projects and must maintain a professional image while exhibiting excellent customer relations in accordance with service excellence standards.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledgeable with preservice functions including order receipt and transcription, scheduling, and registration components.
  • Provides scheduling services for outpatient procedures for physician practices, patients, and ancillary departments.
  • Responsible for inbound and outbound scheduling, rescheduling, and cancellations.
  • Captures current demographic and insurance data for all patients.
  • Utilizes tools and resources including Microsoft Outlook and Teams.
  • Ensures timely and accurate scheduling with patients, physician practices, and ancillary departments.
  • Assists ancillary departments in multiple locations ensuring templates support patient, department, and facility needs.
  • Ensures timely and accurate completion of all assigned work queues specific to orders, scheduling, and insurance verification.
  • Notifies the Patient Access Supervisor of trends or patterns that would delay patient care.
  • Supports the Patient Access Supervisor with special projects as needed.
  • Understands call center KPI's and thresholds to measure productivity.
  • Works in a fast-paced, metric-driven environment that is patient-centered.
  • Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years data entry/computer experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows based computer systems.
  • Written and verbal communication skills with persons of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
  • Preferred 2 years' experience in call center, medical office, or insurance related field.
  • Experience with physician orders, scheduling, and insurance verification.
  • Problem solving and performance improvement skills.
  • Revenue Cycle knowledge and understanding of its impact.
