About The Position

The Patient Access Specialist at Mercy Allen Hospital plays a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of care from the moment they enter the facility. This part-time position requires a commitment to a minimum of 16 hours per week, with rotating shifts primarily from 2 PM to 10:30 PM, and availability on weekends and holidays as needed. The Specialist is responsible for performing admitting duties for all patients, which includes assigning accurate Medical Record Numbers (MRNs), conducting medical necessity and compliance checks, and providing essential patient instructions. The role demands a high level of customer service, as the Specialist interacts with patients and their families, ensuring they feel welcomed and informed about their care. In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Patient Access Specialist will handle various administrative tasks, such as collecting insurance information, processing physician orders, and utilizing an overlay tool to enhance service delivery. The position also involves operating the telephone switchboard to manage incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls, adhering to Mercy Health policies while providing compassionate customer service. The Specialist will be accountable for meeting point of service goals and will utilize quality auditing and reporting systems to ensure that patient accounts are accurate and compliant with regulatory standards. The role requires proactive engagement in pre-registration processes, which may involve inbound and outbound calls to gather demographic and insurance information, as well as discussing financial liabilities with patients. The Specialist will explain consent forms and distribute patient education documents, ensuring that patients are well-informed about their rights and responsibilities. Additionally, the position involves screening for medical necessity using the Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) software and ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed accurately and timely. Overall, the Patient Access Specialist is integral to the operational success of Mercy Allen Hospital, contributing to a positive patient experience and supporting the mission of Mercy Health.
