This role is for a 0.25 FTE (9 hours/week 18 hours/pay period). The Patient Access Specialist (PAS) plays a vital role in creating seamless, patient-centered access to services across St. Peter’s Health Medical Group (SPHMG) Clinics. Often serving as the first point of contact, the PAS delivers an exceptional customer experience while ensuring accurate and timely patient registration, scheduling, and financial processing. This position supports efficient clinic flow and patient throughput by obtaining and verifying demographic, insurance, and payment information with a high degree of accuracy to ensure proper reimbursement. The PAS collaborates closely with patients, providers, care teams, and external offices to coordinate appointments, referrals, and authorizations while maintaining strong knowledge of insurance benefits and payor requirements. Responsibilities include scheduling appointments using designated templates, reviewing daily schedules for accuracy, collecting co-pays when applicable, answering incoming calls, and providing patients with visit preparation instructions and payment expectations within scope of practice. The PAS documents all information accurately in the electronic healthcare information system and supports communication between hospital departments, clinics, and patients to ensure timely access to care. The Patient Access Specialist maintains knowledge of DNV standards, HIPAA regulations, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Consent for Treatment, payor guidelines, and departmental policies and procedures. This role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, professionalism, and adherence to the organization’s Behavioral Standards to ensure a consistent and positive patient experience.
