About The Position

Performs receptionist, registration, and clerical duties associated with direct and scheduled patient admissions. Interviews patients for all pertinent account information and verifies insurance coverage.

Requirements

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computer, printer, copier, fax, and calculator
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Computer experience required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required OR 3 years of directly related experience may be substituted for required education

Nice To Haves

  • Billing or collection experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered into the registration system accurately and timely; assigns medical record numbers as appropriate
  • Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members; ensures all required signatures are obtained
  • Meets with patients or caregivers before or after admission to exchange necessary information and explain processes, addressing questions and concerns
  • Communicates with physician offices, nursing staff, and other personnel to coordinate admissions and determine patient placement
  • Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as needed
  • Determines and collects required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers accounts for financial counseling follow-up
  • Researches patient visit history to ensure compliance with third-party payer requirements and completes necessary documentation
  • Collects co-pays and other patient payments according to established guidelines
  • Checks and stocks supplies as needed
  • Serves as back-up for other functional areas
  • Position serves both internal co-workers and external customers, clients, and contractors
  • Access to and/or works with sensitive and/or confidential information
  • Perform other duties as assigned
