As a Patient Access Representative, you’ll play a key role as the first point of contact for our patients, helping ensure a smooth, supportive experience from check-in to billing. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in a rural health setting while working part time. The Patient Access Representative is responsible for welcoming patients, completing accurate registration, verifying insurance coverage, and collecting payments. This role is essential in creating a positive experience for patients and ensuring the financial health of the organization. This is a part-time position, averaging 25 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Coursework beyond high school or experience in a complex administrative support position.
  • Minimum 1 year of customer service experience required.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office; ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail orientation, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in registration, insurance verification, financial clearance, or medical billing preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and complete registration according to acuity level and clinic protocol.
  • Gather demographic, insurance, and visit-specific information, verifying accuracy with prior records.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, and communicate out-of-pocket responsibilities to patients.
  • Collect and process payments for services and outstanding balances.
  • Refer self-pay patients to financial counseling when appropriate.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance requirements, and pre-authorization/referral processes.
  • Accurately identify insurance plans and ensure correct entry into systems.
  • Provide administrative support to ensure smooth clinic operations.
  • Meet productivity and quality standards, while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
