About The Position

The position involves performing department patient and visitor reception, directing patients to the appropriate location, and obtaining and verifying insurance and billing information. The role requires the ability to accurately process information for all insurance types and to audit charts daily for completeness and accuracy. The individual will also be responsible for completing follow-ups within designated timeframes, preparing paperwork used during patient care, and maintaining a high level of accuracy. Additionally, the position involves maintaining close working relationships with ancillary clinical departments and physician's offices, attending meetings, and supporting the future directions of the division. Training and orienting new clerical staff is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Medical or clerical experience.
  • 50 wpm keyboard skills.
  • Excellent spelling, math, and problem-solving skills.
  • Filing skills.
  • Telephone skills.
  • Data entry skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with co-workers.
  • Effective communication with patients and professionals.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and attend to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Performs department patient and visitor reception and directs patients to the appropriate location.
  • Obtains and verifies insurance and billing information.
  • Accurately processes information for all insurance types.
  • Audits charts daily for completeness and accuracy.
  • Completes follow-ups within the designated time required.
  • Forwards follow-ups that need to be completed to the appropriate person.
  • Prepares paperwork used during patient care in a timely manner.
  • Maintains >95% accuracy.
  • Contacts appropriate people when office equipment repair is needed.
  • Maintains close working relationship with ancillary clinical departments and physician's offices.
  • Attends meetings and supports the future directions of the division.
  • Trains and orients new department clerical staff.
  • Communicates effectively, both in person and on the telephone.
  • Handles stress and pressure and has the ability to make decisions.
  • Maintains competency in all position responsibilities.
