About The Position

The Patient Access Representative serves as the first point of contact for patients at Mercy, embodying the organization's mission of compassionate care and exceptional service. This role involves facilitating patient entrance into Mercy facilities through scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance. The representative is responsible for ensuring accurate patient data is collected and maintained, requiring strong attention to detail and knowledge of insurance and medical guidelines.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of clerical and customer service experience preferred.
  • High School diploma required; some college education is helpful.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance plans preferred.
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines with high accuracy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with various computer systems and medical software.
  • Familiarity with 10-key calculators and computer keyboards.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate all components of the patient's entrance into Mercy facilities including scheduling, registration, and financial clearance.
  • Verify patient benefits and perform pre-certification as needed.
  • Collect pre-visit payments and ensure accurate patient data is populated into the patient record.
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and federal/state accreditation requirements.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and represent Mercy with compassion and professionalism.
