About The Position

The Patient Access Representative II/Sr. position at UTHealth is responsible for ensuring medical necessity compliance, verifying patient eligibility, and managing payment postings. This role is crucial in maintaining the financial integrity of the healthcare facility while providing excellent service to patients and their families. The representative will interact with various stakeholders, including physicians and insurance companies, to facilitate patient access to care.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of experience in a hospital or medical business office setting.
• Ability to multi-task and proficient typing/keyboarding skills.

Responsibilities

• Obtain demographic, insurance, and financial information from patients or guarantors and enter it accurately into the computer system.
• Schedule patient appointments and ensure timely entry of required information.
• Explain necessary forms to patients or guarantors and obtain required signatures.
• Ensure medical necessity compliance by gathering necessary data and communicating with patients or guarantors.
• Protect the financial integrity of the facility by collecting patient liabilities and establishing payment arrangements.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, ensuring all notifications and authorizations are completed on time.
• Post payments in the computer system and generate appropriate patient receipts.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with all Patient Access customers, including physicians and insurance companies.
• Adhere to university policies and standards, managing time and resources effectively.
• Promote professional growth by meeting continuing education requirements and mentoring less experienced staff.
