About The Position

The position provides a positive patient experience to patients and families, demonstrating strong communication and customer service skills while registering patients. Responsibilities include accurately searching and selecting the correct patient, gathering complete and accurate demographic and insurance information, identifying uninsured patients for referral to Medical Assistance/Charity Care evaluation, retrieving orders, confirming medical necessity, and answering phones for outpatient visits. The role also involves gathering worker’s comp or auto insurance information from accident patients, collecting patient out-of-pocket liability/copays, verifying insurance, and confirming referrals and authorizations are on file, if required. The position requires interaction with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson, ensuring adherence to departmental and institutional protocols, and achieving individual and team performance metrics.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in healthcare or business administration preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of customer service experience in customer-facing roles.
  • Current Jefferson Seamless Access Representatives with a minimum of 1 year of experience will be considered as meeting the experience requirement.
  • Proficient with computer and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a positive patient experience to patients and families.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills while registering patients.
  • Accurately search and select the correct patient.
  • Gather complete and accurate demographic and insurance information from patients and families.
  • Identify uninsured patients for referral to Medical Assistance/Charity Care evaluation.
  • Retrieve orders and confirm medical necessity for outpatient visits.
  • Answer phones for outpatient visits.
  • Gather worker’s comp or auto insurance information from accident patients.
  • Collect patient out-of-pocket liability/copays.
  • Verify insurance and confirm referrals and authorizations are on file, if required.
  • Interview patients to accurately complete the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSPQ) questionnaire for all Medicare patients.
  • Use RTE (Real Time Eligibility), Phreesia or payer websites to verify patients’ insurance coverage and benefits.
  • Ensure proper referral and authorizations are on file as needed.
  • Complete all activities with adherence to departmental and institutional protocols.
  • Assure regulatory and compliance requirements are met.
  • Communicate and collect out-of-pocket liability from patients at the time of service.
  • Rotate assignment to all points of service areas within Patient Access (Outpatient Registration and Emergency Department).
