About The Position

The Patient Access Representative - Flex at Geisinger is responsible for providing front line support to the department. This role involves coordinating and performing front line office activities efficiently, greeting and registering incoming patients, supporting the patient check-out process, and scheduling future appointments as necessary. The representative plays a crucial role in ensuring that all check-in procedures are completed, monitoring patient wait times, and communicating any changes to patients as needed. Additionally, the representative reads and interprets insurance responses, understands general guidelines for insurance, and ensures that patients receive necessary disclosure and privacy information. The position also involves collecting fees at the time of service, processing multi-channel messages related to patient requests, and maintaining patient confidentiality and rights. The work is typically performed in an office environment, and the representative is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with organizational policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and insurance processes.

Responsibilities

  • Check patients in for appointments and verify demographics accurately.
  • Complete all check-in procedures and monitor patient wait times, communicating changes as necessary.
  • Read and interpret insurance responses and assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter.
  • Ensure patients receive necessary disclosure and privacy information, obtaining legal and financial signatures.
  • Communicate financial obligations to patients and collect fees at the time of service as appropriate.
  • Complete necessary regulatory forms with patients and schedule follow-up appointments as needed.
  • Process multi-channel messages related to patient and/or physician requests regarding appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and complaints.
  • Notify patients or guarantors of anticipated financial responsibility and collect accordingly.
  • Perform cash posting following department guidelines and maintain productivity and quality performance expectations.
  • Accurately perform medical record maintenance and releases, assist with referrals and pre-certifications, and utilize patient recall and reschedule lists.
