About The Position

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a Patient Access or Financial Services-specific to Healthcare curriculum preferred.
  • Working knowledge of health insurance, deductibles, co-pays, and co-insurance required.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in customer service, patient registration, and collections preferred.
  • Comfort level with out-of-pocket collections activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Insurance Billing Specialist and Insurance Billing Certification course with Hometown Health preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform registration for all patients presenting for service.
  • Obtain, input, and transcribe accurate patient data.
  • Complete necessary forms including proper documentation/signatures and insurance information.
  • Enter data into the computer with minimal errors.
  • Act as a cashier for payments and maintain cash receipts with accuracy.
  • Meet non-emergent patients to discuss treatment and financial options.
  • Assess insurance status and verify insurance benefits.
  • Calculate and collect appropriate deductibles and/or co-insurance from patients.
  • Obtain payment of applicable co-payments and/or deductibles according to health plans.
  • Discuss financial obligations with uninsured patients and provide referral options.
  • Navigate through Availity or Ability software systems to obtain patient's financial responsibility.
  • Set up financial agreements according to hospital guidelines for any balance due.
  • Explain Helping Hands program options, if applicable.
  • Scan all records into electronic medical records.
  • Provide Advance Directives information to all patients as per hospital policy/procedure.
  • Act as an ambassador for the facility by interacting with clients, family members, and staff in a friendly manner.
  • Ensure adherence to proper infection control, OSHA, and safety standards.
  • Provide support for other team members when needed.
