About The Position

At Valley Regional Hospital, patients are the center of our coordinated care system and right now we have an opening for a Patient Access Representative to join our team in the Physician Practices. This position is per diem and requires working during the day. The role involves completing registration functions related to scheduling appointments, supporting insurance verification, gathering patient medical records, coordinating patient care needs, fulfilling administrative needs, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of medical office experience along with Medical Terminology.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Pleasant demeanor and strong customer service skills.
  • High integrity, able to follow written procedures and verbal instructions.
  • Self-motivated learner who takes initiative to learn complex processes.
  • Professional manner and appearance with understanding of appropriate workplace behavior & communication.
  • Ability to keep all patient interactions confidential as appropriate and in accordance with VRH policy and state & federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Complete registration functions related to scheduling appointments in the physician practice setting.
  • Answer telephone and direct patients as appropriate.
  • Update patient demographic, employment and insurance information in medical record & other systems.
  • Answer questions and address other patient concerns.
  • Support insurance verification functions to enhance revenue cycle.
  • Verify patient insurance information is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Collect accurate co-payments and assist with pre-authorization and ABN processes.
  • Gather patient medical records and information to ensure smooth patient appointments.
  • Coordinate patient care needs with other physician practice and hospital staff.
  • Fulfill administrative needs of the practice for the patient care experience.
  • Sort paperwork, scan documents into the medical record, fax documents, and retrieve, open, and distribute mail.
  • Ensure medical record releases are signed, scanned, and completed.
  • Respond to ad hoc administrative requests from physician practice management team.
  • Perform functions in physician practice location as assigned, mastering different processes and working with multiple teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.
