About The Position

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for registering patients for out-patient, emergency room, or in-patient services. This role involves coordinating activities with ancillary departments as necessary, calculating charges, verifying insurance, and collecting deposits as needed. The representative prepares appropriate documents to ensure a smooth registration process. The Patient Access staff is dedicated to facilitating a welcoming and courteous environment, establishing a positive encounter with any patient in need of services. They ensure that all data entry is accurate, including procedural requirements, data elements, insurance verification, authorization for services, and demographic and financial information for each account. Additionally, they are responsible for the successful financial outcome of all patient services, including collections for all patient portions, including prior balances. Effective communication with patients and families, physicians, nurses, insurance companies, and third-party payers is essential.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated advanced computer skills with software programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Proficient in performing mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and perform repetitious tasks.
  • Typing speed of 45 wpm or more.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze data.
  • Basic keyboard skills and telephone skills required.
  • General knowledge of office machines including printers, copiers, scanners, and credit card machines required.
  • One year of experience in hospital registration or a comparable position preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
