About the position

The Patient Access Representative provides secretarial and receptionist support to nursing units appropriate to the age of patients served. This role follows Standards of Care, Standards of Practice, and State Practice Guidelines, utilizing principles of Strategic Quality Management. The representative maintains a safe environment of care and contributes to a collaborative practice with other nursing staff and disciplines. Responsibilities include efficient and orderly registration of patients, ensuring accurate patient information is collected, verifying insurance benefits and eligibility, and promptly answering incoming telephone calls. The representative greets all visitors to the hospital and arranges for patients to speak with a Financial Counselor if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Completes position responsibilities by following established guidelines and protocols within the appropriate time frame.
  • Demonstrates good skills in all forms of communication.
  • Maintains education and development appropriate for position.
  • Adheres to established hospital and department guidelines and protocols.
  • Works well with others in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.
  • Performs position specific job functions at an acceptable level.
  • Accurately completes all aspects of patient registration and/or status including insurance and collection of co-pays.
  • Answers, screens, and directs incoming telephone calls.
  • Maintains an accurate and orderly work station and filing system.
  • Keeps Manager up to date on any staff or department issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must possess strong customer service and verbal communication skills.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality.
