About The Position

The position is responsible for the efficient and accurate registration of all patients, offering financial assistance screenings, and handling point of service collection discussions. The role involves obtaining required signatures and providing general information regarding hospital policies, registration procedures, benefits, patient rights, and patient financial responsibilities. The individual must ensure accurate information collection and provide exemplary customer service while collaborating with each department to ensure a seamless patient/customer service experience.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Data entry and/or PC experience.
  • Medical terminology coursework or knowledge.
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.

Nice To Haves

  • Some related college education.
  • Registration, Patient Advocacy, and collections experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to Register/Pre Registers and/or Admit properly identified patients, registering ED patients after a medical screening exam.
  • Screens, educates and assists patients who may qualify for assistance, including Medicaid, HCAP, and Charity.
  • Generates patient estimates and collects insurance copays and patient balances for services received, informing patients of all payment options.
  • Conducts medical necessity screening for all Medicare patients, offers ABN, and obtains appropriate signatures.
  • Completes all appropriate forms including general consent for treatment, HIPAA notice of privacy practices, Surprise Billing Act, etc.
  • Performs QA on accounts from other departments and provides feedback to the educator.
  • Accurately gathers data for scheduling patient appointments when necessary.
  • Completes the bucket process when working 3rd shift in the ER discharge office.
  • Stays informed of any statute and/or regulation affecting collections for receivables.
  • Acts as a liaison between the facility and patient/family to resolve problems and address complaints.
  • Participates in unit and hospital educational programs to maintain current skills and competency levels.
  • Has the ability to problem solve and offers assistance as needed to all customer groups.
  • Performs all duties in a manner consistent with the mission and value statement of Blanchard Valley Health System.
