About The Position

The Registrar II is responsible for timely and accurate patient registration by interviewing patients to obtain all pertinent account information and verify insurance coverage. This role also has responsibilities in handling complex registrations, insurance verifications, and patient concerns. The Registrar II supports department operations and assists in training new staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3 or more years of hospital registration experience required.
  • Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) issued by the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) or Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) issued by HFMA required within 180 days of hire.
  • Advanced communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficient in registration systems and insurance processes.
  • Ability to train and mentor peers.
  • Familiarity with departmental QA and reporting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients at workstation or bedside to obtain necessary account information.
  • Ensure charts are completed and accurate.
  • Verify insurance and obtain pre-certification/authorization.
  • Verify insurance benefits and calculate and collect patient liable amounts.
  • Secure all necessary signatures for treatment and billing.
  • Explain policies regarding services, charges, and payments.
  • Process patient charts and registration paperwork.
  • Welcome patients and family members professionally.
  • Assign coverages and research the patient's visit history.
  • Prepare daily deposits and maintain cash drawer integrity.
  • Register and admit patients after hours.
  • Escort patients or arrange for escort services.
  • Attend mandatory education and training sessions.
  • Handle complex insurance verifications and pre-authorizations.
  • Resolve patient concerns and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new staff.
  • Monitor registration accuracy and productivity standards.
  • Collaborate with clinical departments to ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Maintain compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Support special projects and reporting as needed.
  • Implement system downtime procedures when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
