About The Position

The Patient Access Order Transcriptionist at Tucson Medical Center serves as the initial point of contact for patients and the business office, providing excellent customer service. This role involves processing inbound physician referrals for scheduling, creating new patient records, and contacting insurance payors to secure authorizations for services. The position requires strong communication skills and knowledge of medical terminology to accurately transcribe orders and facilitate the scheduling process.

Requirements

• High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• Preferred minimum of one (1) year of medical office and/or hospital experience.
• Basic computer familiarity and experience.

Responsibilities

• Exhibit excellence in customer service through appropriate attitude and interaction with all patients, visitors, and staff.
• Interpret physician referrals using medical terminology and scheduling knowledge to accurately transcribe faxed orders from community providers.
• Contact insurance carriers by telephone for appropriate billing information such as authorization numbers.
• Use existing or new software to facilitate reconciliation of orders received and follow up for incomplete orders, authorizations, and missing scripts.
• Document all activity including authorization numbers and additional information received in the system.
• Maintain appropriate filing systems, records, reports, and confidential files for quick retrieval of information.
• Demonstrate knowledge of resources, staffing, instrumentation, and equipment specific to procedures to avoid scheduling conflicts.
• Adhere to organizational and department-specific safety and confidentiality policies and standards.
