About The Position

The Patient Access Discharge Liaison plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by ensuring accurate patient registration and data collection. This position involves interacting with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to facilitate the admission process, manage patient information, and ensure compliance with regulations. The liaison is responsible for maintaining a smooth revenue cycle, addressing patient inquiries, and providing excellent customer service while adhering to hospital policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of work experience in a healthcare or finance setting, preferably in revenue cycle roles such as registration, billing, or collections.
  • Associate degree or active pursuit of an advanced degree preferred.
  • Successful completion of a data entry assessment.
  • Effective organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Sophisticated interviewing, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Intermediate math and business writing skills.
  • Knowledge of office equipment and computer literacy.
  • Excellent customer service skills and medical terminology knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately collects and analyzes demographic, insurance/financial, and clinical data necessary for patient registration/admission.
  • Interacts with patients, their representatives, and healthcare staff to gather and verify information.
  • Registers patients and schedules diagnostic services following departmental processes.
  • Completes the Medicare Questionnaire for Medicare patients and ensures compliance with regulations.
  • Collects and documents third-party payer information and maintains knowledge of payer mechanisms.
  • Generates and processes required forms, documents, and reports in a timely manner.
  • Analyzes and records data to maintain an accurate historical patient database.
  • Scans required documents into the optical imaging system.
  • Follows EMTALA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations during registration.
  • Performs online insurance eligibility checks and records information promptly.
  • Explains and secures necessary signatures for medical treatment and financial responsibilities.
  • Reviews patient records to identify and resolve discrepancies in care and insurance coverage.
  • Monitors work volumes and notifies management of staffing needs.
  • Participates in resolving backlogs and staffing concerns.
  • Explains payer policies and expected charges to patients clearly and accurately.
  • Completes logs and reports for the Business office.
  • Explains hospital credit and collection policies and negotiates payment options with patients.
  • Processes payments and maintains records of transactions accurately.
  • Displays empathy and excellent guest relations techniques when interacting with patients.
  • Participates in departmental training and team-building activities.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the work area and proper use of equipment.
